It has been a year since the tragic Jaranwala incident, where extremist mobs carried out a wave of violence against the Christian community. During the attacks, 26 churches were set ablaze, dozens of homes destroyed, and families—including women and children—were left in fear and despair.
Instead of ensuring justice for the victims, the state has turned its face away. Shockingly, the government has wrongfully accused two Christian men and sentenced them to death on blasphemy charges. This has deepened the wounds of a community already traumatized by persecution.
On August 23, 2025, a large sit-in protest (dharna) was launched by Shakeel Bhatti and Lala Robin, with participation from hundreds of community members, activists, and supporters demanding justice and accountability. The sit-in continues till today, with the possibility of extending further until fair treatment and justice are ensured.
This ongoing protest is not just about two innocent men, but about the larger fight against misuse of blasphemy laws and the demand for equal rights and protection for Pakistan’s religious minorities
